The EVAL-SDP-CB1Z board is the controller board, which provides the communication link between the PC and the main evaluation board. Before connecting the EVAL-SDP-CB1Z board to the PC, ensure that the evaluation software has been installed. The full software installation procedure is detailed in the Software Installation Procedures section. Figure 2 shows a photograph of the connections between the EVAL-AD2S1210SDZ daughter board and the EVAL-SDP-CB1Z board. Finally, connect the EVAL-SDP-CB1Z board to the PC via the USB cable enclosed in the EVAL-SDP-CB1Z kit. To evaluate the AD2S1210, an external resolver must be connected to the EVAL-AD2S1210SDZ. Connect EXE and EXC signal wires from the resolver to the J6 screw terminal. Connect the SIN, SIN, COS, and COS resolver wires to the J5 screw terminal. 1. Verifying the Board Connection There are two excitation driver options provided on the EVALAD2S1210SDZ. Use Link 14 to Link 17 to select the desired driver (see Table 2). The default excitation driver combines an AD8662 precision, rail-to-rail, dual op-amp with a push-pull transistor network. An alternative driver available employs the AD8397 high current, precision rail-to-rail op-amp to drive the excitation signals. In both driver options, a dc bias of 3.75 V is applied to the EXE and EXC signals. Link 10 to Link 13 are used to adjust the excitation gain for each of the drivers (see Table 2). Before connecting the power supply, connect the EVALAD2S1210SDZ evaluation board to Connector A or Connector B on the EVAL-SDP-CB1Z board. A nylon screw/nut set is included in the evaluation kit and can be used to ensure that the evaluation board and the EVAL-SDP-CB1Z board are connected firmly together. After the evaluation board and the EVAL-SDP-CB1Z board are connected securely, connect the power supply to the evaluation board. The EVAL-AD2S1210SDZ evaluation board requires an external 9 V power supply adapter, which is included in the evaluation board kit. Connect this power supply to Connector J702 on the evaluation board. For further details on the required power supply connections and options, see the Power Supplies section. Rev. 0 | Page 6 of 16 Allow the Found New Hardware Wizard to run after the EVAL-SDP-CB1Z board is plugged into your PC. Check that the board is connected to the PC correctly using the Device Manager of the PC. a. Access the Device Manager as follows: i. Right-click My Computer and then click Manage. ii. A dialog box appears asking for permission to allow the program to make changes to your computer. Click Yes. iii. The Computer Management box appears. From the list of System Tools, click Device Manager. b. Under ADI Development Tools, Analog Devices System Development Platform SDP-B appears (see Figure 12), indicating that the EVAL-SDP-CB1Z driver software is installed and that the board is connected to the PC correctly. Figure 12. Device Manager EVAL-AD2S1210SDZ User Guide UG-709 EVALUATION BOARD HARDWARE 50 Hz to 60 Hz. The output from the supply is provided through a 2.0 mm inner diameter jack that connects to the evaluation board at J702. When supplied via J702, the evaluation board uses the ADP1621 and the ADP3303 to supply the various rails on the board. AD2S1210 DESCRIPTION The AD2S1210 is a complete 10-bit to 16-bit, resolution tracking RDC, integrating an on-board programmable sinusoidal oscillator that provides sine wave excitation for resolvers. The converter accepts 3.15 V p-p ± 27% input signals, in the range of 2 kHz to 20 kHz on the sine and cosine inputs. A Type II servo loop is employed to track the inputs and converts the input sine and cosine information into a digital representation of the input angle and velocity. The maximum tracking rate is 3125 RPS. If the evaluation board is used without the 9 V adapter, an external power supply in the range of 4.75 V to 5.25 V must be connected to the DVDD and AVDD connectors to supply the AD2S1210 DVDD and AVDD pins. In addition, an external 12 V supply must be connected to the 12 V input to supply the excitation drivers. VDRIVE is by default supplied from the DVDD connector. Optionally, VDRIVE can be supplied by connecting an external supply in the range of 2.3 V to 5.25 V to the VDRIVE input. Consult Table 2 and Table 3 when externally supplying the EVAL-AD2S1210SDZ. Complete specifications for the AD2S1210 are available in the AD2S1210 data sheet, which should be consulted in conjunction with this user guide when using the evaluation board. Full details on the EVAL-SDP-CB1Z are available at the SDP board product page. There are two main ground planes, AGND and DGND. These ground planes are connected at one location close to the RDC. AVDD and DVDD are both decoupled using 10 μF tantalum and 10 nF multilayer ceramic capacitors. HARDWARE LINK OPTIONS The functions of the link options are described in Table 2. The default setup is configured to operate the EVAL-AD2S1210SDZ evaluation board with the mains power supply adapter and to interface to the EVAL-SDP-CB1Z board. Table 1.
