5003 | SERIES 1/2” BIMETAL DISC THERMOSTAT Introduction The 5003 series is a RoHS compliant, positive snap action, single pole / single throw, bimetallic thermostat which provides accurate and reliable sensing and switching in a single device. It is ideal for applications when space is at a premium with overall depth, without projecting terminals, being only 0.250 in. The basic switch assembly is operated by a bimetal disc with positive, reinforced snap-action, which is known for its reliable repeatability. With several terminal and mounting options, the 5003 series offers excellent shock and vibration resistance due to the robust construction of its switch assembly. For high humidity and contaminating atmosphere applications, the device is sealed with a non-volatile resin. Narrow differential devices are ideal for control, while standard differentials can be used for high or low temperature limit switches. Features • Ideal for surface and air sensing • RoHS compliant per EU directive 2002 / 95 / EC • 1/2” disc button style • Low profile design Applications • Automation • Control • PCB • AC/DC Control • Small Appliance • Water Heater SPECIFICATIONS Contact Ratings Contact Operations Cycles 100,000 100,000 100,000 Voltage 120 VAC 240 VAC, 24VDC 48 VDC Amps (resistive) 5 3 1.5 Either close on rise (make) or open on rise (break), SPST (Single Pole, Single Throw) Operating Temperature +35°F to 325°F (+1.67°C to 162.78°C) Temperature Tolerance Standard of ±5°F with nominal operating temperature settings in 5°F increments Long Term Exposure Limit Dielectric Strength Weight -40°F to 350°F (-40°C to 176.67°C) 1500 Vrms 60Hz, 1 minute, terminals to case 2.3 grams (0.08 oz) Page 1 Copyright © 2018 Sensata Technologies, Inc. www.sensata.com CONTACT OPERATION CODE DESCRIPTION O Letter “O” = Open on Rise C Letter “C” = Close on Rise TERMINAL SELECTION A B (Ø1.40) Ø0.055 (1.22) 0.048 (9.04) 0.356 C (Ø1.52) Ø0.060 (3.96) 0.156 (1.57) 0.062 F G (1.98) 0.078 (10.69) 0.421 (6.35) 0.250 (4.75) 0.187 (6.35) 0.250 (3.96) 0.156 (0.41) 0.016 H J (7.11) 0.280 (14.68) 0.578 (7.92) 0.312 (10.72) 0.422 (3.96) 0.156 (0.51) 0.020 K (7.92) 0.312 (6.35) 0.250 (1.98) 0.078 (0.51) 0.020 Same as View "E" Except Formed 90˚ (Ø1.22) Ø0.048 Same as View "B" Except Formed 90˚ (3.96) 0.156 (14.86) 0.585 (3.38) 0.133 (2.79 - 2.92) 0.110 - 0.115 (7.24) 0.285 (11.43) 0.450 (0.41) 0.016 E (1.96) 0.077 (15.47) 0.609 (1.98) 0.078 (3.96) 0.156 (0.81) 0.032 Same as View "G" Except Formed 90˚ (11.23) 0.442 Same as View "J" Except Formed 90˚ TERMINAL ORIENTATION A B OPPOSED: Terminals on opposite sides of thermostat, on a parallel plane to the mounting bracket / base C PARALLEL: Terminals on same side of thermostat, on a parallel plane to the mounting bracket / base VERTICAL: Both terminals extend up and away, on a perpendicular plane to the mounting bracket / base Terminal orientation restrictions ‘A’ (Opposed) A B E G ‘B’ (Parallel) J A B E ‘C’ (Vertical) C F H K Page 2 Copyright © 2018 Sensata Technologies, Inc. www.sensata.com MOUNTING AND ENCLOSURE SELECTION B A C (16.26) 0.640 D (16.26) 0.640 E (16.26) 0.640 (3.56) 0.140 (15.39) 0.606 (3.32) 0.131 (30.15) 1.187 (7.61) 0.300 (6.35) MAX 0.250 2 Mounting Slots (3.56) (4.37) x 0.140 0.172 F (23.80) 0.937 (Ø3.55) Ø0.140 (0.46) 0.018 (17.45) 0.687 G (21.41) REF 0.843 (30.15) 1.187 (23.01) 0.906 (Ø3.73) Ø0.147 (Ø2.76) Ø0.109 (0.46) 0.018 H (34.92) 1.375 (25.40) 1.000 (0.46) 0.018 (Ø3.18) Ø0.125 (0.46) 0.018 (29.62) 1.166 (Ø3.56) Ø0.140 (0.46) 0.018 (0.79) 0.031 (23.80) 0.937 (16.26) 0.640 (0.46) 0.018 Z (10.31) 0.406 (17.45) 0.687 (23.80) 0.937 J (3.18) 0.125 (11.10) 0.437 (30.15) 1.187 (10.31) 0.406 (0.79) 0.031 (9.52) 0.375 Special Requirements Customer to Specify (9.52) 0.375 6-32 UNC-2A Thread 8-32 UNC-2A Thread Undercut to Allow Stud to Screw Down Flat Undercut to Allow Stud to Screw Down Flat TEMPERATURE CODES AND TOLERANCE Temperature Scale Fahrenheit Celsius Fahrenheit Celsius Fahrenheit Celsius Top Temperature Settings 35˚F to 200˚F 1.7˚C to 93˚C 201˚F to 300˚F 94˚C to 149˚C 301˚F to 325˚F 150˚C to 163˚C Standard Top Temperature Tolerance (code) ±5˚F (A) ±2.8˚C (A) ±8˚F (B) ±4.4˚C (B) ±10˚F (C) ±5.6˚C (C) Nominal Temperature Differential 15˚F 8.3˚C 25˚F 13.8˚C 30˚F 16.7˚C Note • Select any temperature in the range of 35°F to 325°F. Standard choices fall on the 5°F increments, for example 140°F, 145°F, 150°F, 155° F... up to 320°F or 325°F • Specify the °F temperature in the part numbering scheme as a three digit code without the ‘°F’ in the part numbe r. For example, for 200°F, put in code ‘200’ • Bottom Temperature in °F” equals the “Top Temperature in °F” minus “Nominal Differential in °F”. For example 310°F - 30°F = 280°F Tolerance Code A B C Y ( Bottom Temp Only) ±˚F ±5˚F ±8˚F ±10˚F Minimum ±˚C ±2.8˚C ±4.4˚C ±5.6˚C Minimum Note • The standard tolerance for the top temperature is based on the temperature range the top temperature falls in, please refer to the temperature setting chart, and select the appropriate code for a standard top temperature tolerance • For bottom temperature tolerance a “Y” = minimum trip, which indicates the “reset” trip occurs at or above the lower temperature set point.
