3M™ Precision Poly Tape is an innovative engineered polymeric masking tape
designed for both general purpose and fine line masking applications. Its
superior one-piece removal and straight snap tear offers greater performance
over paper-backed tapes. This UV-resistant tape is also waterproof, resistant
abrasion, has excellent adhesion to a variety of substrates, high conformability,
clean removal, and sharp paint lines.

Directions for Use
Make sure surfaces are clean and dry before applying masking tapes.
For best adhesion results, surface temperatures of 60-90°F (16-27°C)
for application are recommended.
Utilize the straight-line snap tear of the tape by using the following
methods (instructional video on 3MCollision.com):
Option 1: The Pinch Tear
Pinch tape with thumbs and
index fingers and sharply pull
one hand away.
Option 2: The Snap Tear
Holding the tape taut off the
roll, quickly “snap” the tape by
pulling at a 45° angle.
Option 3: Tearing on a Surface
Use hand pressure to initiate
the tear then quickly pull the
tape roll down at a 45° angle.
Press the entire width of the tape down firmly to ensure good adhesion
and avoid lifting.
Do not overstretch tape during application. Indicator lines will
appear—showing that the tape is being stretched beyond its limits.
The appearance of indicator lines will affect paint line performance. To
prevent this, reduce the tension used when applying the tape. The
conformability of the polymeric backing will curve easily without high
tension. If sharp curves need to be achieved, use the narrowest width
possible for the application.

Directions for Use
(Continued)
Designed for indoor and outdoor use with 7-day UV resistance. Longer
term exposure to sun and heat is not recommended as it may cause
tape to become very difficult to remove.
Tape removal:
For general applications, tape should be
removed back over itself at a 45° angle
with surface temperatures ranging from
60-90°F.
For removal on delicate surfaces (such as
old weathered paint), tape should be
removed as close to a 180° angle as
possible with surface temperatures ranging
from 60-90°F.
For fine line work, tape should be removed
at a 45° angle away from the paint edge, at
a slow speed with surface temperatures
ranging from 60-90°F. This helps “cut”
the paint line for the cleanest edge.
Note: This tape can be utilized for “folded tape” used in jamb masking—
either made by hand or by using the EZ Edger™ dispenser. To use the
tape on an EZ Edger™ dispenser, lift wheel B up and out of contact with
tape. See image below for details. PTFE tape can also be applied under
wheels F & B to aid in dispensing.
Applications
General masking (including use on apron tapers & other masking paper
dispensers)
Fine line & custom painting work
Folded tape for jamb masking (including use with the EZ Edger, see
specific settings above)
Surface protection during wet sanding, buffing & polishing operations
