Temperatures were measured outside and inside a stationary hard hat, not while on a human subject. When the protective equipment is exposed to a convective heating element from a distance of 10 cm (3.9 in.), the temperature rise occurring behind the equipment is lower compared to the temperatures reached outside the protection.
