PA-DCSG-001957 Product Advisory Issue Date: June 04, 2020 Advisory Type: Serial Number Format Update Description: Broadcom DCSG is updating the serial number format to designate year of manufacture by letters instead of a numerical digits. Current serial number format uses a single digit to indicate the year of manufacture. For example, “5” indicates 2015. However, DCSG has been manufacturing in the same CM location for over 10 years. As volumes have increased, we are at risk of not having unique serial numbers for products manufactured because the allotment of numbers per work week is 99,999. For example, if 75,000 serial numbers were used during WW 20 of 2010, then only 25,000 are available during WW20 of 2020 under the current format. To avoid running out of serial numbers, the format is being updated as follows. Current Format SAYWWSSSSS S A Y WW SSSSS Data identifier Manufacturing Site Code Year manufactured Work Week Sequential serial number; reset to 00001 at beginning of each work week New Format SAYWWSSSSS S A Y WW SSSSS Data identifier Manufacturing Site Code Year manufactured where: A=2020 B=2021 C=2022 D=2023 E=2024 F=2025 G=2026 H=2027 J=2028 K=2029 L=2030 M=2031 N=2032 P=2033 R=2034 S=2035 T=2036 V=2037 W=2038 X=2039 Y=2040 Z=2041 Work Week Sequential serial number; reset to 00001 at beginning of each work week Page 1 of 2 Parts Affected: The updated serial number format will be applied to all Broadcom DCSG products. This includes boards, SuperCaps, Cables, and RAID Keys. Effect of Change: There is no change to form, fit or function. There will be no changes to part numbers or revisions.
