600 Series MPS-8 and APS-8 Description Gamewell-FCI’s 600 Series power supplies, the MPS-8 and the APS-8, have been developed for today’s critical power requirements that demand high efficiency and outstanding reliability. The extensive use of audio/visual devices for ADA signaling and UL 1971 notification appliances has increased the amount of power the fire alarm control panel (FACP) must supply. The MPS-8 and APS-8 supply that power with margins to spare. The MPS-8 Main Power Supply is controlled by the FACP microprocessor to maintain adequate voltage levels and output current. The IF650 can accommodate an additional MPS-8 (expansion cabinet required) if greater system power or battery charging is required. The APS-8 is an Auxiliary Power Supply specifically designed to provide 8.0 amps of 24 VDC signaling or auxiliary power to the system. APS-8 power supplies may be added to a system as required. The APS-8 does not connect to the MPU bus directly, so it does not impact the number of input or output modules that may be added to the system. The APS632-8 is similar to the APS-8 — the APS632-8 is designed to fit into the IF632’s expansion cabinet (CAB632-4). 600 Series Power Supplies gf-2023ph1.wmf MPS-8 APS-8 Features MPS-8 Main Power Supply: • • • • • • • 8.0 A power supply. 4.0 A system power, 4.0 A signaling power. IdentiFlex 632 and IdentiFlex 650 systems support an unlimited number of auxiliary power supplies. Operation The MPS-8 and connected batteries are supervised through the FACP CPU. In the event of loss of either main AC or battery power, the FACP CPU will report the trouble at the operator’s display. The MPS-8 also provides brownout detection for the system. The standard battery charger on the MPS-8 is capable of charging up to 60 AH batteries. The APS-8 auxiliary power supply is monitored through its connection to output modules such as the Universal Signal Module (USM). Battery standby power for the APS-8 is supplied through a connection at the MPS-8. The MPS-8, with the main CPU, manages the secondary power source. The MPS-8 provides 4.0 amps for system power and 4.0 amps for signal power. The MPS-8 also provides power monitoring and battery charging capabilities for the system. The APS-8 is used whenever additional signal power or 24 VDC auxiliary power is required. The APS-8 connects directly to the USM signal module to simplify system design and installation. An unlimited number of APS-8 power supplies may be added to a system without affecting system I/O capacity. The power supply shall be fully supervised and shall monitor for the presence of main AC power as well as battery power. The Main Power Supply shall also monitor for low/no battery and brownout conditions. The Main Power Supply shall be capable of charging 60 AH batteries and shall be equipped with automatic highrate circuitry. The Main Power Supply shall be GamewellFCI Model MPS-8. Auxiliary power supplies shall be supplied as required to power all signals and auxiliary devices. The Auxiliary Power Supply shall provide 8.0 amp of full-wave rectified power. Provisions shall be made on the Auxiliary Power Supply for battery backup as required. The Auxiliary Power Supplies shall be Gamewell-FCI Model APS-8 or APS6328.
