Safety
Bahco tools all have a high level of technical performance. The materials used are of high quality and they have been carefully
chosen and tested in order to guarantee safety and durability. We are one of the few hand-tool manufacturers who make the
tools and the insulation in-house, both the PVC dipped insulated version (most of the tools) and the handle version (pliers,
screwdrivers).
Each tool is tested to 10000 V for a period of 10 seconds, thus guaranteeing safety during live work.
High performance and quality materials.
The flame does not spread.
Can perform between -20° C and +70° C.
Black tip protects
against impact.
Laser marked
totally indelible.
Yellow layer
indicating high danger.
Orange layer
indicating danger.
Red layer indicating safety.
Routine tests in accordance to IEC60900 specification
Dielectric test
Retaining force test
The tools are immersed in water for 24 hours.
A voltage of 10kV is then continuously applied
for 3 mins. The test is considered successful
if no electrical puncture, spark over or flashover occurs during the test period and if the limits of leakage current are not exceeded.
This test is applied only to tools which can
be assembled. The test consists of applying
a force of 50 N to try to separate both parts.
After a minute, both parts should stay assembled.
Impact test
Permanent marking durability
The tool is cooled at -25° C for two hours.
Afterwards, a special hammer applies force
on the insulating layer. The test is considered
successful if the insulating material shows no
breaks.
The markings are rubbed for 15 s with a rag
soaked in water, and then for 15 s with a rag
soaked in isopropanol. After this process, the
marking should be legible.
Insulation adhesion test
Penetration test
The tools are conditioned at a temperature of
70° C for 168 h. A force of 50 N is applied in
the direction of the line dividing the insulating
material coating from the conductive part for
3 min. During this test the insulation material
must stay firmly attached to the basic tool.
The insulating surface is pressed with a
special device. A voltage of 5000 V is then
applied to the tool for 3 minutes. The test is
considered successful.
Flame test
Visual and dimensional
The test is considered as passed if the flame
height on the tool does not exceed 120 mm
and there is no leakage of insulated material
in fusion.
The tool (in particular the insulation) is visually
checked and should be free from external defects. The marking should be perfectly legible
and the dimensions should be in accordance
with the standard.

The variety between soft and piano depends on the tensile strength of the
wire which of course is related to the material properties (copper, brass,
iron, steel, etc). Then in each wire type we can find a large variety of
thicknesses (diameters). More than the ones shown in this small chart.

The design of ergonomic tools within Bahco is based on a scientifically
recognised 11-point programme. This
programme covers facts and experiences gathered from users, ergonomists, industrial designers, research
and development departments as well
as extensive testing and trials together
with end-users of our tools. This method is unique within the tool industry
and to ensure that you can always see
which tools have been developed according to this programme, each one
is marked with the Ergo™ symbol.
