Rev A has a 3” stoke for better handling Pneumatic Operator 901510 The Paladin Pneumatic Operator was designed to be used with Paladin crimping, cutting and stripping tools with spring retraction. This unit works with standard air compressors that have a 1/4” coupler and a maximum output pressure of 120 PSI. PLEASE READ AND UNDERSTAND THIS BOOKLET BEFORE USING THIS TOOL. Applicator Cylinder Base Pressure Gauge When using the Paladin Pneumatic Operator you must do the following to ensure safe usage: 1. Remember to wear SAFETY GLASSES. 2. Always set the regulator pressure to the minimum force needed to close the applicator correctly and close the cover. 3. Adjust the flow control speed setting to make sure that the tool does not close too quickly. (fig.1) 4. Always keep work area clean and free of debris. 5. Never put fingers in the applicator when the air line is connected to the pneumatic operator. Assembly: The tool comes completely assembled, you will only need to install your Paladin hand tool of choice and the machine is ready for use. It is recommended that you secure the Paladin Pneumatic Operator to your work surface. This can be done by either screwing the base directly to a table or by using a “C” clamp. Once the unit has been set up it is time to connect the 120 PSI airline (Note: This unit was not designed for air pressure greater than 120 PSI). This unit is pretested at the factory, but before you install your hand tools please depress the foot pedal to verify the unit is working properly (fig. 2). The method is the same for all tools. With the air line disconnected, loosen the top tightening screw and slip the hand tool into place. The lower handle will sit on the push wheel. Adjust the top tool holder to the angle desired so that the tool will close enough to complete the job. ( ratcheting tools will need to be installed so that they close completely allowing them to re-open.) For Paladin Strippax strippers you will need to lower the upper tool holder so that the lower tool handle sits on the roller. Before using the unit adjust the pressure to the minimum amount need to work the tool. Then insert wire and test. If the wire will not strip increase the pressure slightly. Fig. 4 Upper Tool Holder Push Roller Fig. 3 Proper operation depends on the user. There are several techniques that will help in the operation of this tool. By adjusting the upper tool clamp, you will be able to change the angle of how your tools fit into this unit (fig. 4) You also have the option of mounting the piston from a different angle, which will allow you to use a greater variety of crimpers (fig.5.) When crimping small terminals you may need to slow the movement of the cylinder. This can be achieved by closing the flow control valve (turn clockwise). Please take some time to try different settings so that you become familiar with your Paladin Pneumatic Operator. 1 year warranty from original date of purchase. For non-ratcheting tools, the pneumatic operator will automatically open the tool upon release of the foot pedal thereby allowing extraction of the foreign article. Hand Tool Release Instructions Should a foreign object get caught in the Pneumatic Operator, or a crimp terminal was misaligned , the operator will need to release to tool, if it is caught in mid stroke. 1. Take your foot off the Operator Pedal 2. Use a screw driver to activate the emergency release latch on the hand tool 3. Take the foreign object out For ratcheting tools (i.e. crimping tools), it is required to ensure that the handles are installed into the retaining mechanism in a manner that allows the ratchet release trigger to be exposed and within easy access to the user. Whereas, when installing a crimping tool into the pneumatic operator actuator assembly, ensure there is clearance between the actuator cover plate, and the tool release trigger, to allow a user to implement an emergency release. When properly followed, these instructions ensure OSHA compliance whereas, when a foreign object is inserted into the tool, and emergency release is enabled by releasing the foot pedal of the operator, and pressing the emergency release trigger on the tool to allow the ratchet mechanism to dis-engage and open the tool. Sincerely, Paladin Tools 4. Cycle the Operator a few times to ensure proper functioning. Connecttool, Inc. Dear Pneumatic Hand Tool Operator; The Pneumatic Operator is packaged with the foot pedal not connected. This way we can better package the unit for transit. The unit will set up in seconds. 1. Locate the black tube on the foot pedal, connect this tube to the flow control valve. See fig.1 2. Locate the clear tube. This is the tube that provides air on the down stroke. Connect this tube to the upper fitting on the cylinder. 1. Black Tube (air in) 2. Clear Tube (top fitting) down sStroke 3. Orange Tube (bottom fitting) up stroke 3. The orange tube will connect to the lower fitting, this is for the up stoke. 4. The last tube which is packaged with a hex wrench is for the air input. Connect this tube to the fitting on the opposite side of the flow control. Now you are ready to install your hand tool! Trouble shooting: 1. After connecting the air to the pneumatic unit the cylinder automatically extends with out pushing the pedal. SOLUTION: switch the tubes on the cylinder fittings.
