It's a grid of 4x8 silicone buttons, with a NeoPixel behind each one for rainbow glory. The engine is a ATSAMD51 microcontroller with stereo audio channels and microphone input. NeoTrellis M4 can be an all-in-one synthesizer, drum-machine/sequencer, expressive MIDI keyboard, audio filter, sampler, simple game machine... well, YOU decide what to make it!
